Pedestrian and Site Protection

Sidewalk sheds

On NYC streets, facade repairs often happen directly above narrow sidewalks, busy storefronts and building entrances. A sidewalk shed protects pedestrians below while crews work overhead.

For buildings subject to the Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP), also known as Local Law 11, the shed may be part of the protection needed while unsafe facade conditions are addressed. Since February 2, 2026, new and renewed shed permits are generally limited to 90 days and do not renew automatically.

Jersey barriers

When a construction crew or piece of equipment works close to moving traffic, jersey barriers can separate the work zone from vehicles. On busy Manhattan avenues or Brooklyn streets with limited staging space, their placement needs to account for traffic movement and the space available for the work.

Temporary fencing

From a vacant lot in the Bronx to a demolition site in Queens, temporary fencing marks the construction perimeter and restricts unauthorized access. It helps keep people out after crews leave for the day, including overnight and on weekends.

Scaffolding Systems

Which DOB filings apply depends on the structure and the project. We coordinate them and prepare the supporting documents.

Pipe scaffolding

Look at an older Brooklyn brownstone or a prewar building with a cornice and a setback, and you’ll see why a pipe exists. Our crews cut and clamp steel tubes to fit the wall in front of them, bay by bay. It takes longer to build than frame, and it reaches places the frame can’t.

Frame scaffolding

Frame goes up quickly. The sections arrive prefabricated and lock together, and a crew can run a flat, straight wall in a short time. Low- and mid-rise buildings with regular facades are where it fits best.

Suspended scaffolding

On a tall building, the platform comes down from above. A swing stage hangs from rigging on the roof and travels along the wall, which means work on the upper floors never needs a tower built up from the street.

Pricing a job?

Jobs That Need More Than One Structure

Take a facade repair on a busy street. It usually needs a sidewalk shed for the people below and scaffolding on the wall for the crew. A new building next to traffic often adds fencing around the lot and jersey barriers along the curb. We build and file all of it under one scope, so the general contractor deals with one firm. Describe the whole job on your first call and we’ll list every structure it needs.

Permits, Filings and Violations

Most of these structures start with a DOB filing. We draw the plans, file through DOB NOW and track the application from submission on. We also work to resolve DOB violations tied to our site work, though the DOB makes the final call on approvals and outcomes. Already have a violation or inspection report? Send it before anything else. It shows us which filing you need and how soon the cover has to go up.

Emergency Response

Falling debris and DOB orders can’t wait for morning. Call (718) 581-4370 at any hour and tell us the site, how urgent it is and what happened. Response and arrival times depend on location, site conditions and crew availability. We cover the sidewalk first, then plan repair access. Our sidewalk shed page walks through the emergency process.
