Scaffolding for Staten Island buildings

Most of our Staten Island calls start with a facade repair, a DOB order or a violation. We build the scaffold or shed, file the permits and help address any violation tied to the work. General contractors call us too, when a site needs protection built around it.

The buildings change from block to block. Side streets hold detached and attached houses in siding or brick. Bay Street, Hylan Boulevard and Forest Avenue carry low storefront rows with apartments above. Garden apartment complexes fill other parts of the island, and older masonry stands around St. George and Borough Hall.

What we put up on Staten Island

Find your building below. A site survey makes the final call.

Your building What the wall looks like What usually goes up
One- and two-family houses (across the island) Detached or attached houses in siding or brick, usually set back from the street Frame scaffolding for pointing, siding, and window work, with a sidewalk shed where the work requires overhead pedestrian protection
Storefront strips (Bay Street, Hylan Boulevard, Forest Avenue, Richmond Avenue, New Dorp Lane) One- to three-story fronts with shops at street level and apartments above Frame scaffolding with a sidewalk shed over the storefront walkway
Garden apartments and mid-rise apartment buildings Long brick elevations in repeating bays Frame scaffolding on the flat runs, and pipe scaffolding around ornament and projecting trim
Older civic and masonry buildings (St. George, around Borough Hall) Stone and brick fronts with cornices Pipe scaffolding around the cornices and decorative stone, with a sidewalk shed over the sidewalk

Local Law 11 covers buildings taller than six stories, a line most Staten Island buildings stay under.

Staten Island street embargoes

Updated October 2026

NYC DOT suspends street permits on busy streets at certain times. During the holiday embargo, routine street work is suspended unless DOT approves it. Emergency work is the exception, and it goes ahead once the permittee has an emergency number.

Holiday embargo corridors

The holiday embargo runs from November 15, 2026 through January 2, 2027, from 6:00am to 11:59pm. DOT’s Staten Island list includes:

  • The Borough Hall area, bounded by Victory Boulevard, Wall Street, Richmond Terrace and St. Marks Place, all inclusive
  • Bay Street, from Broad Street to the Saint George Ferry Terminal
  • Hylan Boulevard, from Guyon Avenue to Steuben Street
  • Richmond Avenue, from Victory Boulevard to Oakdale Street
  • Forest Avenue, from the Staten Island Expressway to Victory Boulevard
  • Victory Boulevard, from the West Shore Expressway to Slosson Avenue
  • New Dorp Lane, from Richmond Road to Mill Road
  • Amboy Road, from Richmond Avenue to Richmond Road

The list has other entries too, and DOT’s page has the full text. On holiday gridlock alert days, DOT prohibits lane closures from 6:00am to midnight on the Staten Island Expressway and the West Shore Expressway.

The marathon start area

The NYC Marathon starts on Staten Island, and DOT embargoes the start area, including the Staten Island Expressway, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and streets around St. George, Bay Street, Hylan Boulevard, Fingerboard Road and Father Capodanno Boulevard. DOT posts each year’s dates on its embargo page.

Sheds and scaffolds

DOT’s page does not say how embargoes treat sidewalk sheds or scaffolds. If your job falls on an embargo corridor, call us before you set the schedule.

Filings and the Staten Island DOB office

Filings go through DOB NOW: Build, online and citywide, and we handle them. For in-person business, the Staten Island borough office is in Borough Hall, 10 Richmond Terrace, 2nd Floor, Staten Island, NY 10301, between the ferry terminal and Nick LaPorte Place. Hours can vary by service, so check the DOB office locations page before you visit.

Emergency response on Staten Island

A damaged shed, an unsafe scaffold or a DOB order on Staten Island cannot wait for morning. Call (718) 581-4370 at any hour. How fast we reach you depends on the address, the site’s condition and which crew is free. Inside an embargo area, emergency work can still go ahead once the permittee holds a DOT emergency number.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

We do, from a single house to a storefront row. Our crews build the scaffolding, sheds, barriers and fencing, and our office files the DOB permits.

Most houses and storefront rows go with frame scaffolding, plus a sidewalk shed when the work reaches over the walk. Older masonry with cornices usually needs pipe. Send us the address and a photo, and we tell you which system fits.

It can, if your site sits on a corridor DOT lists. That includes the Borough Hall area, Bay Street down to the ferry terminal, and stretches of Hylan Boulevard, Richmond Avenue, Forest Avenue, Victory Boulevard, New Dorp Lane and Amboy Road. The embargo runs November 15, 2026 through January 2, 2027. DOT’s page doesn’t say how it treats sheds and scaffolds, so call us before you set a date.

Staten Island’s DOB borough office sits in Borough Hall, 10 Richmond Terrace, 2nd Floor, NY 10301. Hours change by service, so check the DOB’s office page first. Most of our filings run online through DOB NOW: Build.

Call (718) 581-4370 at any hour. Arrival depends on the address, the site’s condition and which crew is free, so we give you a time when you call.
