We correct the condition behind the violation and help file the proof the city needs to close it.
People search for this as violation removal, but no contractor removes a violation on its own. The city closes it when the DOB or OATH accepts proof that you fixed the condition. Our part is the fixing and the filing behind it.
We work in one lane: violations tied to the things we install. That means sidewalk sheds, scaffolds, construction fences and facade protection, in all five boroughs. For those, we correct the physical condition and file the permits and paperwork the correction needs. Boilers, elevators and illegal conversions stay with other specialists.
The two look alike on paper, and they close in different ways. Check which one you hold before you do anything else.
| Category | DOB violation | OATH summons |
|---|---|---|
| Hearing | None. There is no court appearance. | Possible. You can contest the summons at a hearing. |
| How it closes | Correct the condition, submit proof to the issuing unit, and pay the civil penalty. | Correct the violation and submit a notarized statement to the Administrative Enforcement Unit, admit the violation, or contest it. |
| Classes | None. | Class 1 (Immediately Hazardous), Class 2 (Major), and Class 3 (Lesser). |
The notice names the issuing agency and the class. If you cannot tell, send us a photo, and we read it with you.
A violation closes when the city accepts your proof. Everything else is a step toward that.
Paying the penalty does not close a summons. It keeps showing as open in the DOB’s Building Information System until the city accepts acceptable proof of correction. Many owners pay, relax and find the violation still blocking a later filing.
If your summons is eligible for a cure, correct the condition and submit an acceptable Certificate of Correction by the cure date printed on the summons. An approved, timely cure can waive the hearing and penalty.
You can also accept a stipulation, which sets the terms for correcting the condition. Ask a lawyer whether it fits your case.
Hazardous and repeat violations skip the cure path. You attend the hearing, or you admit the violation and pay. An owner can send a representative to an OATH hearing. Either way, the correction proof still has to reach the city.
A Class 1 summons means an immediately hazardous condition, and the city expects you to correct it at once. You file the Certificate of Correction through DOB NOW: Safety. When the Administrative Enforcement Unit approves it, the summons is resolved. A Work Without a Permit violation adds civil penalties that apply before approval.

These are the rules a violation on our equipment can follow from.
Facade violations also have their own resolution page at the DOB, which the notice links to.
Five steps take a violation on our equipment from notice to proof:
If an engineer or architect has to sign part of the job, we work with yours or bring in one.
Four dates run most violation timelines:
We invent no other deadlines. Check the dates printed on your own notice.
No. Paying the fine only settles the money side. The violation stays open on city records until you fix the condition and send accepted proof to the DOB.
A DOB violation has no court date. You fix the issue, pay the fee, and send proof to the issuing unit. An OATH summons is a legal order with three violation classes where you either fix it before a deadline, pay up, or go to a hearing.
It is the deadline printed on the summons. If you fix the problem and file your paperwork before this date, the city waives both the hearing and the fine for eligible violations.
It is the official form proving you fixed the work. For Class 1 hazardous violations, it gets submitted online through DOB NOW: Safety. Once the city approves it, the violation is resolved.
You or your representative has to deal with it. Whether you should fight it, fix it early, or pay depends on the case, so talk to a lawyer. We handle site work and filings, not legal advice.
No. Only the DOB and OATH decide that. We install code-compliant equipment and file the paperwork, but no one can guarantee what the city will do.
Send us the building address, the violation number, the hearing date, and a photo of the notice. We will look at it and tell you what site protection or filing is needed.
